Today we continue with the 4-part series about the elements, two weeks ago I covered the fire element, the Intuition type and the Dragon Ally, then last week I was digging into the earth element, the Sensation type, and how the Tortoise Animal Ally can help us clear the clutter and get organized.
now we take flight in the air element, the Thinking type and how the Hummingbird animal Ally can help us be curious and innovative.
A Quick Recap
of the concept I covered in Your Natural Blueprint (episode 235)
There are 4 elements, based on astrology and ancient traditions, and they align with archetypes found in renown Carl Jung’s psychology work.
- Fire element, fire types are the go-getters full of passion, energy and drive. They are what Carl Jung called the Intuition Type and I assigned them the Animal Ally Dragon. I jumped into the Fire types in episode and blog 236.
- Earth element and types are steady and dependable, Carl Jung called them Sensation Type and I assigned them with the Animal Ally Tortoise. We dug deeper on the element earth in episode and blog 237
- Air element and types are the dreamers and thinkers, the Thinking Type according to Carl Jung and I assigned the Hummingbird as their Animal Ally. We fly high in the element air in this blog in a minute...but first the last element is the
- Water element, the water types or Feeling Types according to Jung, they are intuitive and empathetic, and I assigned the Dolphin as their Animal Ally. We dive into that energy in episode 239
Most of us are a mix of all four elements, while one is often dominant. Understanding your dominant element can help us embrace our natural strengths and tendencies without feeling like we need ‘fixing ourselves’ or that we are put in a box. We're already free and whole, we just need to learn to work with our natural strengths and stop fighting against ourselves and our innate nature.
If you’re wondering now what your dominant element could, I’ve created a fun quiz that helps you find out. I’ll share how to access it at the end. Ok, now
Let’s take flight in the Air Element, the Thinking Type, and its Hummingbird Ally
If Air is your dominant element, you're likely a dreamer and thinker, you thrive on ideas and creativity and you adapt quickly to new situations, however you might struggle with getting or staying grounded and following through with your ideas. Does that sound familiar?
Let's dig deeper
The Strengths of Air Types
Air types are quick-thinking and energetic. When this energy is healthy and balanced, they’re curious, versatile, and innovative which drives progress in their project Also, their lighthearted, agile nature and their ability to think outside the box helps keep things moving.
- they are good in handling multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
- they can shift priorities with ease
- They’re quick thinkers and quick decision-makers, often relying on their sharp instincts
- they effortlessly ajust and adapt to changing needs and environments
- they approach things with curiosity, always eager to explore fresh perspectives and ideas
With that in mind, I’ve chosen the Hummingbird as the Animal Ally for the Air element. Hummingbirds are known for their unique ability to hover and even fly backward, they symbolize agility, curiosity, and an upbeat, energetic approach to life.
The Challenges of Air Types
However, just as much as Air is versatily, it can also lack focus and be scattered
- Air types are easily distracted and struggle with fully completing things before jumping on to the next
- They often find it hard to stay focused on long-term goals, which reinforces the pattern of leaving things unfinished.
- Due to their quick decision-making and taking action, they might miss important details or deadlines.
- They can easily feel stressed and overwhelmed, as they tend to juggle too many ideas or tasks at once.
Their key challenge is learning to balance quick decitions with thorough consideration of details, and to learn to resist the urge to take on too many things at once, as well as focusing on completing tasks before moving on to new ones.
3 Tips for Air Types to Get and Stay Organized
Air types thrive on quick decisions and fast implementation but they do benefit from a bit of structure and grounding to stay on track. Here are three tips for harnessing that energy
- Limit Dirstractions Create an environment that helps you focus by reducing interruptions. Turn off non-essential notifications, minimize open tabs, and consider sound-canceling headphones. A streamlined, quiet workspace makes it easier to concentrate on one task at a time.
- Stay Focused with a timer Air types are often all over the place, try using a timer, and set specific time blocks for tasks. This adds structure to their natural speed and energy, and allowing them to complete more wihtout losing focus.
- Regular Reviews reflect and review on your goals and projects on a regular basis and adjust your tasks on what's working. Start each day with a clear to-do list that aligns with your larger goals which helps staying the course.
Remember, the Elemental Quiz is your starting point to uncover your dominant energy type. It's a fun and eye-opening way to gain more insights on how you operate best. And when you take the quiz, you’ll get a detailed report with even more tips and strategies to help you harness your Fire Element.”
3 Mini-Tasks to Jumpstart Organization Projects
To get you started, here are a few mini-tasks tailored to Air types:
- Capture New Ideas: Use a pen and notebook or a digital note taking app to quickly jot down new ideas and to-dos as they pop up. This helps clear your mind without losing focus on your current task.
- Daily Workspace Reset: Set aside 15 minutes at the end of each day to tidy up your workspace. This simple routine refreshes your environment, reduces clutter, and create a clear, focused start for the next day.
- Grond yourself with mindfulness: try quick mindfulness techniques like a 5-minute meditation or journaling to help you get and stay centered and more grounded. This can balance your creative energy and keep you focused.
This leads to my
Bonus Tip: the importance of self-care!
Air types take on too much and often feel scattered so they too need time to ground themselves and refuel their energy. Unlike fire types, who recharge through moving their body, or Earth types that find renewal in grounding activities, Air types need to center and connect with themselves which they can do through their breath.
- Spend time in nature — for example take a walk or have a moment with a tree (tree bathing) Let this help you ground yourself and feel more present.
- Sing or use your voice - Whether it’s singing, speaking affirmations, or even talking out loud, using your voice can be a powerful outlet for releasing built-up thoughts and reconnecting to yourself.
- Journal - Allow yourself to write out any jumbled or confusing thoughts without judgment. Journaling provides a release for swirling ideas, and getting it on paper can bring clarity and ease.
Introspection and Reflection
After grounding yourself you can reflect on these questions
How is the element of Air, symbolized by the Hummingbird, showing up in your life and business for better or worse? Reflect on where your natural lightness and quick-thinking tendencies play a role.
How do you already use your strengths of creativity, curiosity, and adaptability? In what areas or situations could you consciously apply these strengths even more?
Where do the Air element’s challenges, like difficulty with follow-through or scattered focus, limit your progress? Identify any areas where you may lose focus or leave projects unfinished and consider how you might address these habits.
So this was taking flight in the element Air, did you recognize yourself? Are you ready to learn more?
