Today kicks off the first of a 4-part series where I’ll dive into each of the four elements: fire, earth, air, and water, along with their Animal Allies—Dragon, Tortoise, Hummingbird, and Dolphin—that I’ve assigned to each element.
We all have a dominant element and it impacts our energy and our organizing style. Knowing our dominant element can help us understand ourselves better, we start recognizing our unique organizing style, and we can start working with our natural strengths and challenges.
Today, we’re focusing on the element Fire and its ally, the Dragon. If you’re someone who dives into projects with intense passion but finds it challenging to maintain that energy, your dominant element might be fire and this episode is especially for you. I will talk about how to harness that fiery energy and turn it into long-lasting momentum.
But before we get into it, here's a quick recap
Last week (episode 235), I introduced you to the idea that, based on astrology and ancient traditions, we all have a dominant element—Fire, Earth, Air, or Water—that influences how we approach things, including organizing our space, files, and even finances. These elements also align with Carl Jung's psychological archetypes.
- Fire types are the go-getters, full of passion and drive, and Jung called this the Intuition Type. If this is you, then your Animal Ally is the Dragon—more on that shortly.
- Earth types are steady and dependable, also known as the Sensation Type, and their ally is the Tortoise. We’ll cover them in the next episode, episode 237
- Air types are the dreamers and thinkers, or the Thinking Type, with the Hummingbird as their ally—episode 238.
- Water types are intuitive and empathetic, the Feeling Type, with the Dolphin as their ally—episode 239.
Most of us have a mix of all elements, but one is often dominant, and understanding it can help us embrace our natural strengths while staying intentional. It's a tool do understand yourself and your actions better
If you haven’t taken my Element Quiz yet, I’ll share how you can do that at the end of this blog post
Now, let’s dive into Fire
If Fire is your dominant element, you probably jump into projects with passion and enthusiasm but may struggle to keep up the momentum. Does that sound familiar?
The Strengths of Fire Types
One of the Fire type’s greatest strengths is enthusiasm. When this energy is healthy, they inspire others and drive progress with their quick actions.
They light up every room they enter, inspiring others with their energy and passion. Their confidence and drive often position them as innovators, pushing boundaries and leading the way.
- they love to jump into new projects with excitement,
- They constantly come up with bold, creative ideas, and their ability to embrace challenges head-on is one of the reasons Fire types often lead the way in innovation.
- they are driven by a need to create and make things happen.
- those are people who arn’t afraid to take charge, whether it’s a project at work or organizing a group of friends - they are natural leaders
- they thrive in environments where things are moving quickly, and they don’t shy away from risk.
With that in mind, I’ve chosen the Dragon as the Animal Ally for the Fire element. Dragons are powerful, ambitious creatures—they’re strong, confident, and they know how to take charge.
The Challenges of Fire Types
However, just as fire can burn bright, it can also burn out.
- Fire types may start lots of projects, only to struggle with follow-through when it gets tedious or when they hit a roadblock.
- They often struggle with patience and feel frustrated if things don’t move as fast as they’d like, or if they don't see fast results, solidifying the pattern of starting but not completing tasks.
- When the initial enthusiasm wears off, they’re tempted to abandon projects altogether.
- The key challenge is learning to pacing themselves, it's about tempering their energy to avoid burnout and to stay committed to tasks through to completion, even when the excitement fades.
3 Tips for Fire Types to Get and Stay Organized
Fire types thrive on action and immediate results, they need quick wins so here are three tips for harnessing that energy:
- Break It Down for Quick Wins
Break larger decluttering and organizing projects into small, manageable tasks that give you quick wins. This approach will give you a sense of accomplishment and helps maintain your enthusiasm and momentum.
- Challenge Yourself
Fire people love competition, therefore set up mini-competitions with yourself to keep things exciting. Use a timer and see how much you can clear or organize in five minutes, or set a goal to tackle a small area as quickly as possible.
- Keep a ‘Done’ List
Fire types often focus on what’s next, so they forget how far they’ve already come when things get hard. Therefore keep a ‘Done’ list to celebrate small victories which helps reinforce your progress and keeps you motivated.
